RIP Mr Sammy
We mourn the loss of the beloved Sammy D.
Sammy DiVincenti was one of (if not our very first) foodservice salesmen at Olde Tyme. He ran a family owned business, DiVincenti Bros. out of Baton Rouge. Glenn was working at Golden China when he met Sammy. When Glenn opened up Olde Tyme in 1982, Sammy came a callin.
Sammy was one of a kind, larger than life, and he was more than a salesman, he was family. He did not just treat our business as another account, we were truly family to him as well, and all the work he did to help Olde Tyme in the early days is such a huge reason for our success. We would not be the company we are today without Sammy. From the hot shots he personally ran to the store in the early days, to the random calls and visits (even up to his very last days, post retirement) making sure we still had enough butcher paper, we know we’ll never have another one like him.
There’s so much to be said about him, and words don’t do justice, but in just a few short sentences, Glenn puts it this way:
“Sammy was an older brother, a best friend, and there was never a finer man. He never complained and never said a bad word about anyone. He was always looking out for everyone else, and his presence in the Lafayette community helped build so many restaurants that are still thriving today. He was always an example of love. We will miss him dearly, and are praying to one day be reunited with him in Heaven.”
Rest In Peace Big Sammy.
